The sanctuary lights are on multiple circuits, but controlled by just two switches for front and rear parts of the sanctuary. Mechanical relays are used to accomplish this. The electrician found that relays with AC coils were quite noisy, so this author recommended use of DC coils, and designed and built a simple circuit consisting of four regulated DC supplies for the coils. The connection diagram is here. For future use, modern solid-state relays (if adequately heat-sinked) should be considered if replacement of the regulated supplies is necessary. However, currently, there is (I think) one spare supply available in case one fails; simply change the connections.
The balcony gets quite warm during the summer months. In addition, if the sanctuary is full of people, the present two 5-ton A/C units feeding the sanctuary are inadequate. This author constructed, with much help, a system to divert, via dampers, the basement A/C to the balcony and sanctuary to add an additional 5 tons of cooling. The system worked well, except for some complaints by people who chose to sit in front of the large vent on the N side of the balcony wall blowing into the sanctuary. For reasons not known to this author, the system was disconnected and abandoned. However, it should still be operable if reconnected and checked out. The documentation for this system is quite complete.
